Today was warm... well, warm for Michigan

50 degrees outside, intense fog.
I want to do an ink painting of this picture, it'll be awesome.

---------------------------------------------------------

I got a Canon Rebel XS, it's lovely.
Which means, many many pictures

First of some cookies I'm going to be selling to shops around TC.
Note: These are the first batch made in Michigan ever, with that said... they didn't turn out the same as the California batches.
I blame being too tired and skipping the all important step of making sure the butter is soft before mixing.

Still tasted mighty good, but next batch will be much much prettier.

---------------------------------------------------------

My dog Zebadiah could smell the cookies I was taking pictures of,
and decided to hang out/snooze on my bed.

Here he is snoozing on my sisters bed.

What can I say, the dog likes to sleep.

--------------------------------------

Three cheers for my weird paper cutouts!
I wouldn't laugh at my paper cutout illustrations.
They do have feelings, and they do give paper cuts.

I learned the hard way...

Happy Holidays

I'm typing this from my new iPod touch. I'm officially up to speed with todays technology. I also made some powerful eggnog! My studio is now setup, so you'll be seeing more artwork shortly... I'm preparing for events like comicon, hurray!

My Room

I've spent the past few weeks getting rid of clutter.
I still have the downstairs to tackle, but I've made a good dent upstairs.

I needed a room change...
The old room had turqouise walls with a white illustrated bamboo forrest.
I got the idea in my head when i was 17, had to do it.
Not really into that now, resulting in a room change.

I have wood floors in my room, which i love.
I decided to go simplistic and vintage meets the woods.
If that makes any sense?

Sweat, blood and tears went into painting the walls a extremely light grey/blue color called "coastal fog".
Which turns out white in these pictures, which is why i had to tell you otherwise.

I still want a different dresser, but it's what we had in the house.
However, I did get the chair & a wonderful headboard (that you can't see in the pic) for 20 bucks total.
Thanks to the super cheap awesome thrift stores in Northern Michigan.

Anyway, I present to you... my room.

I Decided to make a couple simple art pieces for the walls, and frame a few leaves my mom collected this fall.
She loves collecting leaves, I don't know why.

Oh yes, and I'm very proud of my bedside table.
I got it for 10 bucks at the GW.
At the time it was painted black & had a rust problem.
So I cleaned it off, annihilated the rust, primed and painted.
I <3 projects!
I think I'm going to paint that mirror white too.

Gwen Frostic (poet, printer, & illustrator)

Gwen setup her studios in the small town of Benzie, close to where I live.
Her wood-block printing is what really made her famous.

Benzie is really into the wood printing, so I checked to see if there were any classes.
Apparently there's an apprentice position open at a company from there.

I'm going to apply for it, because it's such a rad way of printing.
If I were to get the position I'd get free stay in a cabin by the river.

I have to learn how to wood print, it's too cool to pass up.

Happy Thanksgiving

I made it to Michigan last night, it was an interesting drive.
My goal was to make it as fast as I could to Chicago...
which resulted in a one day non-stop drive from Texas to Illinois.

Oklahoma was the most depressing state I've ever been to.
Nothing going on, and (I stress) very ugly.

So I made it to Chicago yesterday and spent the day there.
Went shopping at Belmont (silverlake of Chicago), brought back good memories.
I wouldn't doubt it if I ended up there in a few months,
It's not too far of a drive (4 to 5 hours).

For now I get to finish up and send out my art pieces for the Los Angeles show.

Eat some Turkey, and help my parents clean out the paper mess they've accumulated.

Farewell Los Angeles

I've packed up only what can fit into my trunk.

I'm not into hanging onto things...
I figure Items aren't memories,
so no reason to keep anything more then the essentials.

Tomorrow is Phoenix

For now,
I will spend one last evening watching a movie in my room.

Michigan

I'm moving back home to Michigan in a week.
Packing isn't fun, but i'll be back.
Maybe...

I'm worried.

Or else i'll move to NYC.
A lot of people have told me that I seem more
east coast.

Once Upon a Time art show, SUPPORT ME

This is history in the making, I will be having my very first art show.
*tears* Seems like it was only yesterday that I picked up a paintbrush,
because it was only yesterday that I picked up a paintbrush.
Though I'm really good with drawing and mixing colors so i'll be okay.
I will be signing autographs, I will be paying people to ask me for autographs.
I'm now apart of the elite, I feel very grateful.

The lineup for the show is amazing, so you simply have to come!
Like all art shows there's free alcoholic drinks, or I assume so.
Free alcohol = you being tricked into thinking my painting is worth 200 bucks, so drink up!

DO IT!

Seriously though (being serious now)... Extremely talented lineup,
so do yourself a favor and head to the show.

Ron Paul talks about Obama

I've never liked a politician quite like Ron Paul, contrary to most...
he speaks the truth.
(also noting that he's not supporting McCain)

Obama Win Causes Obsessive Supporters To Realize How Empty Their Lives Are

If you want to find out who someone is you look at their actions,

Todays jumble

Twas a bad day.
Looking on the bright side of things, I decided to move forward.
Wasn't entirely mature about it, I had my sad moment for an hour.
Though after that I grabbed a coffee, did some laundry,
and went fourth.
Salvaged the day as much as possible, updated more logo versions.
Oh and the 16th marks Animal Crossing for the Wii!
I got something to look forward to after I beat Fable,
taking my sweet time doing so.

new direction rough thumbnail (needs fine tuning)

I'm thinking change the Kali Meadows font to something more legible...
something that works more as a smaller read, not a header font.

Versus old direction

The Election & Halloween

Finished the flyer,
it's good.
I would have liked more time, I might have been able to produce something quite amazing.
Though this is cute, and I got it done.

----------------------------
The Election

I'll be voting for Bob Barr,
key reasons being,

• Wants to end the war
• Eliminate the Federal Reserve
• Eliminate the Dept of Education
• Significantly Reduce & eventually eliminate the Income tax
• Stop illegal immigration
• Pro Free Market
• Anti Big Government
• Anti Wiretapping
• Eliminate secret prisons
• Mustache & Pedo-esque

A good amount of issues that I can stand behind.

The rest of you can vote for your loving
Obama with his big socialistic government & wiretapping ways.

I can't vote for someone I don't really stand behind, due to fear of McCain.
I think it's time we educate ourselves as a nation.
Really delve into issues and not just vote by the tube.
Our problem is, the all power television.

----------------------
Oh and as far as Halloween goes.
Why do chicks slut up costumes?

Even girls who you think are normal,
show their true retarded colors come Halloween.
I will chuck a pumpkin at each and every slutified (if that were a word) costume.
sexy ghostbusters watch out, a pumpkin to your head!

Else egg head will haunt your dreams.

Halloween Flyer Rough

Working on some hip DJs halloween party flyer...
without further ado, I give you the rough illustration.

I call it... Frankenstein DJing and out pops a ghost with his bitches.
I ought to give both the girls some massive tits.

I don't have all the info, and so the text isnt laid out correctly...
I'll do that after I've finished my 30 min Fable break.

Planned Parenthood

Before you freak out on me, I have gray areas with abortion.
Birth control is fine, early on abortion I don't have a problem with.
I'm not an ignorant, racist, extreme conservative.
Furthermore If you ask me, I think abortion is an issue for the states.
anyway...

So what's my problem with Planned Parenthood?

It lies within it's principal idea of Eugenics, which doesn't sit right with me.
The idea of controlling and tampering with evolution to produce a superior race of human beings.
Hitler was a strong believer of Eugenics,
it was the main premise of the holocaust.
Kill off the minorities, ill, disabled, & dumb, after all...
they're just messing up the gene pool.

I saw a news article (that I found amusing)
It stated that the democratic party was
urging the public to give donations to Planned Parenthood,
to stick to McCain and Palin.

So let me get this straight...
We're to support Obama by donating to Planned Parenthood
whose root goal was to get rid of racial minorities like Obama?

If you don't believe me just take a look at some of
Margaret Sangers (founder of Planned Parenthood) own words.

-----------
"The most merciful thing that a family does to one of its infant members is to kill it."
Margaret Sanger (editor). The Woman Rebel, Volume I, Number 1. Reprinted in Woman and the New Race. New York: Brentanos Publishers, 1922.

"Birth control must lead ultimately to a cleaner race."
Margaret Sanger. Woman, Morality, and Birth Control. New York: New York Publishing Company, 1922. Page 12.

"We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population. and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."
Margaret Sanger's December 19, 1939 letter to Dr. Clarence Gamble, 255 Adams Street, Milton, Massachusetts. Original source: Sophia Smith Collection, Smith College, North Hampton, Massachusetts. Also described in Linda Gordon's Woman's Body, Woman's Right: A Social History of Birth Control in America. New York: Grossman Publishers, 1976.

"Eugenic sterilization is an urgent need ... We must prevent multiplication of this bad stock."
Margaret Sanger, April 1933 Birth Control Review.

Splendid Margaret, you're something else.

I have traditions

If I've been awaiting a game for over a year I have to take a picture with it via isight.

I'm horrible at drawing people in public

On my recent travels home I wanted to sketch people at the airport.
Then I remembered, It's very frowned upon to sketch people in public...
If you haven't tried it, I suggest doing so.
Many weird glares will be turned your way.

So I draw people super quick with their heads turned, and or people very far away.

okay from right to left.... some middle aged over weight lady with her luggage, a pretty girl all dressed up searching in her purse for a mirror... and then looking at herself with the mirror (a little too superficial), some guy on his laptop with a coffee, and then two people seated down chit chatting.

Concept Logo

Expirimenting with illustrator and some techniques,
made some concept logos.
I'm working on them more this weekend,
finalizing ideas.
The coffee one was just experimenting
with techniques to make logos more snazzy.

I'll be making more versions/concepts for my personal logo.
You know, minus the swearing bird...
suppose it could offend some people.
Plus, I think the bird thing has been over done
by illustrators across the globe... maybe gnome?

Moose-Stache Revised

So I had a sketch of moose stache scanned in, which I didn't like to be honest.
This is much, much better.
Actually the first one was so bad, I can't bare to look at it anymore (consider it banished to room 101).
I need to adjust the lower case "h", it's looking like the letter "R" right now

Which leads me to my weekend adventures.
I galavanted through Pasadena & in the midst of it all.. grabbed a couple of books.

The first one being "Hand Job" by Michael Perry.
It's all about handwritten typography, I recommend.

See me demonstrate my X-ray vision, splendid.

The second one being "Art and Design of Gama-Go".
Nothing that will blow your mind away, but just fun character art.
I figure I can produce close to that quality of art, so it's good as a reference.

If you get both books I think you'll notice my moose-stache being heavily inspired by the two.

Beautiful Lies

Making a logo/album cover for a band called Beautiful Lies,
I don't make logos... ever.

This one just came to me.
Actually it took about 2 hours of brainstorming.

The main assignment given to me was to make an album cover.
It's to help my friend Chris Hansen with one of his projects.
He has to promote a band for his record label class.
So what better way then with some nice new art, right?
Hire up a designer and get em workin' on it.

I'm done with making things to how I think people would like them.
All I want is just to do my own thing and if people like that,
then they can hire me.
I'm not sure if that's the correct way to look at things,
but I make better art that way.

Refusing to make anything cheesy I had to think hard.
I made a list of what represents lies and beauty,
nothing good was coming to mind.

Then it hit me, an optical illusion!
It's a beautiful lie, and I can use it as a logo!

Then I looked up cool album covers, listed them down.

Placing the logo dead center on a flat background,
simple but perfect.

The only thing is the B is jagged, but whatevs.
I got the rest of the CD to worry about now.

That is if Chris and his group approve of this.
I actually gotta perfect it a little more, I quickly did it in illustrator.

Ice Box Brownies

I got the illustrations & t-shirt designs done for my portfolio.
Now all I need are a couple designs and logos.
Again I'm gearing my design skills to more cartoon youthful styles,
seeing as it seems to be my niche.

Here's a design for a brownie box, I'm still working on it.
I decided to make the main character a brownie (mythical creature).
He's so cute I could just give him a big ol' hug,
and in the process I'd probably kill him...
Brownies are very tiny.

Side Note: Outside my neighbors keep their annoying birds,
so everyone can hear them.
Their owners have now taught them how to do a cat call whistle...
they never stop.
I went outside to empty the trash,
and I got hooted and hollared at by 5 birds at once.
It was great, it made me feel very flattered.

Octopus Sweatshirt Idea

Not sure if this could easily be done,
but I'd love to see the backs of people wearing sweatshirts if they were octopuses.
It would even look good with the hood off, hairy head octopus.

A friend of mine,
Keith Noordzy (talented illustrator & squid hunter)
apparently has copyrights to all things with tentacles.
So, please don't sue me.

Stressed out to the max

Extreme stress is weird,
It makes me physically feel weak,
and I have nightmares of my teeth falling out.

apparently it's a common stress dream, who knew?

Anyway I quickly re-did this "I Rule"

I'm going to take out the background and make it into a t-shirt design.

Hopefully this weekend I can finally get
some things done and some of this extreme stress will be lifted.
I can't take another dream where I have no teeth.

Getting Places

About one month ago I threw together a portfolio...
That's just the problem, it was thrown together.
If I want to be taken seriously I figure i'll
need a really nice snazzy portfolio that really sells
me as an illustrator.

I'm sticking to my cartoon style only in this one.
I figure that's what I do best, and it'll give the portfolio
a more put together look.

So here's the front page I made last night.
I'm gonna be working on it all day today, and
whatever it takes tomorrow.
