Home

I love speed painting backgrounds, esp of Traverse City peninsula.
It's my favorite place to go swimming in all of Lake Michigan, good memories.
Like most of Michigan, you go through thick forrest and then all of a sudden it halts to reveal sandy beaches and crystal blue waters.

I also love this photo,
which further more solidifies my description of "forrest to sandy beach".

Concept Prints

I didn't spend much time on this, but It looks pretty good to me.
Would really like to make this into a print, I'm gonna make it happen this week.

Morning Routine

I've decided to start sketching at least two people in the morning.
Gotta keep it at a low so I'll keep up with it.
I tend to be more artistic in the morning,
I guess I just dont over think things then.

Here's todays

Don't disagree, that's what the bow and arrow is for.

Yoda next to a naked chick,
basically what I always draw.

Freelancing for E!

Keep your eyes peeled when watching E!
you might see some of my work making a debut real soon.
A friend (who works for E!) asked me to illustrate
some childrens drawings of Alice in Wonderland.
I guess they needed em' for a show they're doing.
Threw my hair up in pig tails,
got out a big piece of paper, opened a box of new crayolas,
layed down on the floor with my legs kicking,
and got to work.

Apparently it's hard to draw like a kid,
but not if you are mentally challenged like myself.

I don't mess around, I pay deep attention to details.

Notice the following
• backwards "L"
• everything has the same smile
• blob hands

All of them, things only a child would do.

I'm a star

Flyer Update

Latest Update:
I know it's not perfect, but I'm going with it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
I still have to update some text,
but this is the direction I'm going with.
Really am having a lot of fun with this one, a lot of free creativity.
Recently this past month or so I've gotten a kick start back into art.
I have some strong motivation for once, not sure exactly why.
Actually I think this blog has brought it on,
I've become enthralled by it.

Flyer

A DJ asked me to make a flyer for his house party,
so this is my first rough pitch.
I'm sticking to Helvetica,
I think the disco ball is distracting and crazy enough as it is.
I'm stopping where I'm at because I'm done for the night,
it's too stuffy in this room & i need rest.
Here's hoping he digs!

I like it, even if nobody else does.

I think im going to forward this sketch and make this little guy into a real character.

Yes I've always hated comic sans...

I think it only works with the Sims.
Even then... there's a better font for the job.

What a horrible font, it sums up all thats wrong in the world.
It's used by people for any dreadful announcement.

• Lost your pet? Comic Sans.
• Stupid Fundraiser? Comic Sans.
• PTA Meeting? Comic Sans.

Scratch Girl Finished

So I finally finalized it, hurray!
Drinks on me!

It's not 100% perfect (the coloring), but it's near to it.
I'll work out the kinks of my system and eventually it'll look flawless.

Lady and her dog

Sketching goes well if I don't have a planned person/place/object in mind.
Eventually i'll just start making shapes and they'll develop themselves.
It allows me to relax and not over think things.

Then later on I can come back to a bunch of
different options for finalized illustrations.
Options that I normally wouldn't have thought up.

I've got a plan to get my scatterbrain in order,
and make some things happen.
I can see that I have the knowledge now to set off on my career.
Just gotta pack my bags (figuratively speaking).

This lady loves her dog, but I don't think the feelings mutual.

Tribal Time

I have no idea where I was going with this,
just figuring out how to use custom brushes and what not.
To me It looks like some sort of tribal future junkyard people
building bridges, making things happen.

I love concept background paintings, I want to get amazing at em :)

I wouldn't have been able to create this if I hadn't watched some
awesome tutorial on speed painting backgrounds.
Custom brushes in photoshop are key to creating fast art, and I never knew!

Wouldn't it be amazing to work for a game or film
creating environments and backgrounds?
I could just stare at concept art all day long, sigh.

If I really want to get serious about environments,
i'll need to actually understand perspective a little more.
I know basic perspective...
but it's always been a little difficult when it comes to the tricky stuff.
Still I'm stubborn and when I care to learn something,
I usually almost always can.

Window View

So I got myself a pocket watercolor moleskin, and I love it.
Found a polaroid camera for a buck, Goodwills got it going on.
Was going to have my mom just send me the one I left at home,
but for a dollar I think it's even cheaper this way.
I really want to go to different locals and take pictures, and then paint them.
I don't like sitting around outside painting for too long, can't relax in public.

I'm starting this book off with the view from my window.
I haven't really tried background painting, so bare with me.

Think I could have gotten a little more values going on in it.
Also It's not exactly the same composition, and it could be improved.
That said I think it's a cute little sketch painting, and I'm looking forward
to doing some more.

Here's another photo I took for drawing, mainly for the telephone lines.
I just thought they looked more interesting in this photo.
Plus it's just a better photo, though not easier to paint mind you...
I don't think a screen could be easily done.

Need some new shoes?

I just finished this pair and took a pic, lovely.

20 bucks says they're yours, honestly.

Banner options

I'm working on making a portfolio blog, and I want a nice header for it.
I figure my name is Meadows so I'm going with the whole flower feel...
meadows have flowers in them, correct?
Though the flower kinda looks like a fire, still looks rad.
(FYI: This is just a mock up)

I'm excited, I think I finally have a grip on doing my illustrations.
Time for self-promotion, and a better tomorrow.

This will be one of the many tonight

Okay so I found a possible illustration job (low pay, no big deal),
but I got to make some illustrations with backgrounds tonight.
I figure I need to anyway, so even if I don't get the I don't give a hoot....get it? haha

I have a list of what i need to re-do with backgrounds or just make anew altogether.

Imma be up all night long, so I figured it's only appropriate to start off with night owls. .

Cat scratch fever

Remember this?
Well I decided to color her in, and it's not bad.

On my travels through Nevada & Arizona I picked up a pin-up book, complete with 3D glasses!
Except... when I opened the book the 3D glasses were gone!
How I ask?! It was still in shrink wrap!
Ah well i'm forced to draw from 2D now, you work with what you got.

This is only the start,
i'm going to get awesome at this digital painting, you'll see.
Planning on taking a background painting class too, so that should help.

I should go to Dr Sketchys again, I mean it's not that bad.
10$ bucks down around sunset and you get to lounge in a bar and draw during happy hour.
Probably the best drawing scenario one could ask for.

Self Teaching

Let's face it... in my eyes I'm pretty rad,
so I just had to draw myself.
Though I keep cutting off the arms in the sketches, because i'm not as cool as I think I am.

I'm gearing up for this weekend,
where I will start and finish my first real photoshop painting.
If it turns out good (which it will), then i'll post it for you all.

Then you'll all want to draw pictures of me too.

I LOVE SPACE

So much so that I sent mine only self to make a space themed poster.

I might have maybe... sort of....
ripped off the text layout from the a vintage Penguin cover, but that's okay!
I mean I did make the graphic on the front, and for that I am happy.

Honey Bear

This morning on a walk to the nearby store & this little guy decided to walk back with me.

He's my neighbors dog and he's quite the little character.
He seemed a bit over heated & bored,
so when I got home I decided to give him some water.

He's cute.

Ice cream saves bees?

Apparently the Honeybee crisis is still brewing.
So much so that Haagen Dazs are jumping on board and trying to help out.
http://www.helpthehoneybees.com/

The ultimate excuse to get fat.

I was looking up news about this and there's some
controversy as to if this whole honeybee deal is THAT huge.
Media is always quoting that Einstein once said...

"If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe,
then man would only have four years of life left."

I'm not sure that he really said that,
people can't seem to actually find that quote.
If you do, let me know, I'm too lazy...
Besides I have other political passions to worry about,
like closing down Guantanamo detention camp.

I think it's a good enough reason to make a quick banner though, right?
This is in honor of old book covers that I dig so much.

Christopher Parker Hansen

First off I apologize,
this post falls off the path of an art related entry.
Having said that, It's just too good.

My very rad friend Chris and I have both been having some molar pains.
I'm strong, he's weak & so he decided to go do something about it.

I let him know to make sure to get back to me on how it went.
Just incase I might feel the urge to do something about my molars.

He said the drugs alone were awesome, so it's worth it...
later on he sent me this.

Happy Memorial Day

Since I skipped the BBQs (I'm not eating meat),
I decided to do some serious cleaning.
Dug up some old artwork and found this gem,
inspired from old clipart.

Tomorrow I get to look forward to starting my new job,
and fun times will be afternoons and weekends.

Grease Lightnin'

Weird art that looks cool, I love it.
I'm going to update it a little more, I'm just trying to think of how...
then I'm going to take another photo of it and get it printed at
Costco or something.
Holla' at yo Costco it's bananas...
They do prints there, right?

Why fiddle dee dee, where are my manners?
My good buddy ol' pal Justin B. thought up this brilliant idea.
I need to illustrate it better actually,
because the beard is suppose to be a tornado.
I think there needs to be more cyclone action going on!

Anyway I want the final version framed in my room.
If Justin likes it, i'll send him a framed copy as well.

Side Note: I think I'll also do a version of hand art, kinda like this.

Does it even count as art? More like boredom at it's finest!
Anyway I want a few framed in my room as well.

Give me a head with hair, long beautiful hair.

If I owned a home i'd paint a wall like this.

I think I'm going to take this concept and make a t-shirt out of it.
